Frequently asked questions / FAQ

What is rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis, RA for short, is an autoimmune disease that affects approximately 0.5 to 1.0 percent of the population. In RA, the body's immune system attacks the lining of the joints, causing inflammation.

What is juvenile idiopathic arthritis?

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the collective medical term for rheumatic diseases in children and adolescents and is also known as rheumatism in children. The disease is divided into different subtypes depending on the symptoms: these include, for example, oligoarticular JIA, in which only a few joints are affected, as well as polyarticular JIA with at least 5 joints affected, and systemic JIA, which affects the whole body.

What is psoriasis vulgaris?

Psoriasis vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory, non-contagious skin disease. It is the most common form of psoriasis, affecting about 80 percent of all people suffering from psoriasis. Manifestation ranges from individual, small spots to infestation of the entire skin. Psoriasis vulgaris is characterised by itchy, dry, reddened skin and round, raised areas of inflammation. These are sharply defined and covered with silvery, shiny scales. Punctiform bleeding spots, a thin membrane on the damaged skin and lamellar scaling are also characteristic of the disease.

What is psoriatic arthritis?

20 to 30 percent of all people with moderate to severe psoriasis suffer from arthritis at the same time. Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the skin and joints. Thus, in addition to psoriasis, there are also painful joints.

What is Crohn's disease?

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. The condition is characterised by stages: phases of the disease with inflammatory activity and corresponding symptoms alternate with symptom-free intervals. Periods of rest may last for a long time.

What diet helps with rheumatism or psoriasis?

Various scientific studies indicate that changes to your diet can have a positive impact on your general state of health if you have an inflammatory disease of the joints or skin. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis, it is therefore beneficial to include foods containing anti-inflammatory substances in your diet.
